Next generation ceramicsResearch chemists at the Australian National University (ANU) are developing new advanced oxide ceramics to serve as tomorrow’s dielectric resonator materials.---more |
Gone with the Wind – ARNAM 2007Well, if you missed this year’s ARNAM Annual Workshop, one of Australia’s premier materials science events, you missed the opportunity to take part in a meeting that will probably go down in conference history as one of the wildest weather weeks ever on the NSW south coast. Torrential rain, gale force winds and pounding seas made it an event that participants will be talking about for years. But the storm conditions experienced at the ANU Kioloa field campus where the workshop was held only added to the camaraderie and friendly spirit of what everyone agreed was a great event.---more |

In a general sense they’re both about nation building but the more direct connection is that a researcher at the University of Canberra will be using the new Australian Synchrotron to help conserve the document signed by Queen Victoria.---more |
Watching materials shape upPhysicists at Monash University have solved a major problem in surface electron microscopy by developing a new technique to determine surface shape and depth. The breakthrough will enable scientists to see, in real time, 3-D images of materials evolving.---more |
Ceramifying polymers will save livesA polymer that transforms into a fireproof ceramic in a blaze is set to have a major impact on the $12 billion global passive fire-protection market, and stands to save many lives.---more |
